Sepia Saturday

Sepia Saturday has challenged bloggers with the visual prompt above. I've gone with desks and am sharing desks I've seen at a couple historic homes.

Not only would I like this desk in Charles Dawe's home in Evanston, but I'd sure take the how room.

I saw this desk at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee. Another great Tiffany lamp.

Captain Pabst, the famous brewer's desk.

  1. Wouldn’t it be great to have that library in the first photo? I’d like those Tiffany lamps too.

  2. Besides being a musician, I also make furniture and cabinets so I appreciate the fine craftsmanship that went into those beautiful desks and the library woodwork. But looking at that patina I'm wondering what kind of beer makes the best furniture polish? Is a German lager better than a Irish stout?

  3. Beautiful desks. I'm surprised Capt. Pabst's desk is so small, though. Interesting. The name Pabst brings back a memory. My family was camping in a popular camp ground at Lake Tahoe. Someone started the "Elmer?" thing. People began to join in and soon there were all manner of voices calling "Elmer?" Finally some smart aleck hollered "Whaddya want?" and my 12 year old brother called back "Pabst Blue Ribbon" which brought quite a few laughs. Those were the days!

  5. Excellent photos of hardwood desks -- and interesting that two of them had Tiffany lamps. The library in the first photo is impressive!
