Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

November 19

If we were having coffee, I hope we'd be beside a roaring fire. It's cold outside. Some days it's been below freezing and while it didn't stick we have had snow.

I learned that one of my students from Afghanistan's siblings are out of Kabul and are now safe in Greece. She lives in Canada and hopes her family can be reunited there, but the main thing is that they're safe.

As of Thursday we had no idea whether we'd be required to work on Thursday. Via our grapevine, I'd heard that we wouldn't have to, but according to my supervisor The Management hadn't made up their minds, they "like to keep us on the edge of our seat." That's very much a flat footed answer. Thanksgiving is just a week away. Those who submitted requests for leave are in the dark as to whether they'll get any.

It's still cold so I still would like coffee near a fire.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving. I went to my sister-in-law's for dinner with her and all my nieces and nephews. Though my brother just died in October, we made the best of things, reminiscing about Bill, catching up on their activities and eating wonderful food. Below is a charcuterie board my niece made.

We wound up getting Thanksgiving off, which I figured we would. I had heard as much a month ago, but the Management is horrible and believes it's a good idea not to communicate with employees. I pit people who's families live far away.

During the day I had a hit of energy and did a lot of deep cleaning. I scrubbed the kitchen, baked brownies, made a green bean casserole for Thanksgiving dinner and cleaned out the spare refrigerator. It was so nice not to crouch in front of a computer for 10 hours.

Tomorrow we're having my sister-in-law and her kids over for dinner. I'll also start on my Christmas shopping. I worked today, just 8 hours. I had time to finally get an estimate on body work for the car that was in a fender bender in September before I started my job. I want to get another estimate because this is pretty steep. The person who hit me has to pay, but I do want to get the best price.
