Pull Up a Seat
At the National Museum of Mexican Art's Día de los Muertos exhibit there was a circle of unique chairs. The artist honored her mother's family with decorated chairs that featured mirrors with photos of each deceased relative. Each chair had a different bunch of objects glued to the seat. No need for little signs saying "Do not sit."

I read a book about grieving called The Empty Chair. This seems like it might have been inspired by a similar thought.
