Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!


If we were having coffee, I would say, "Let's go to Open House Chicago!" Like other cities Chicago opens its doors, many that are private, to the public to show of its great architecture.I could only go one day this year. I wanted to volunteer, but then this job requires that I work on Sundays. 


While not as many sites were open as in the past at least this year some sites were open unlike last year when everything was either virtual or exterior only. Still there were well over 100 sites to view. Since I've done downtown in the past, I wanted to explore outlying neighborhoods. I started in Rogers Park with the Lang House, a restored Arts and Crafts home that's been restored and is available for rental for events or accommodations.

I moved on to Edgewater where I stopped in the neighborhood's historical society before getting to the Minnekirken Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church. It's a shame but their exterior was getting some work done so I saw scaffolding rather than the red brick below.




I did get to go inside where I caught most of a tour. Not only did the church provide a warm welcome, but Norwegian waffles and crafts were on sale.

I was thrilled to have some free time and discover new places. I'll share more Open House Chicago photos later in the week. I hope I have time to actually write out some blog posts, but this work schedule is such a grind. I do miss blogging.

    I could always find myself standing and staring at some of the great old churches. They're like art you can walk through and be surrounded by amazing. Thanks for the glimpse of these churches.

    What a great idea. I really like that these places open to allow others to have a little glimpse of something they may never see otherwise. Churches and cathedrals are always so spectacular from inside where you can appreciate the stained glass with the sunlight behind it.

 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas For this week's Sepia Saturday I thought I'd share photos from my visit to Old World Wisconsin. Last week a friend and I visited this historic site in Eagle, Wisconsin to see it's Christmas festivities. Old World Wisconsin is a place where they've gathered and restored buildings from the 19th Century. In December on the weekend's they're open to show visitors how Christmas was celebrated over 100 years ago. In the town's church, which was the first Catholic church in Milwaukee, visitors could sing carols. The performers read a Christmas passage from a Little House on the Prairie book. They also brought kids up from the audience and they read "The Night Before Christmas." Ready for Christmas morning. This room is set up for a cobweb party.
